Josiah Blackeagle Pinkham
Nez Perce Tribe
Josiah Blackeagle Pinkham is a member of the Nez Perce Tribe. Nez Perce homeland spans Northcentral Idaho, Northeastern Oregon and Southeastern Washington. The Nez Perce Indian Reservation is located in North Central Idaho and that is where Josiah was raised.
Josiah presently works for the Nez Perce Tribe Cultural Resource Program and deals with many different federal agencies in the protection, preservation and perpetuation of cultural resources. He has also dealt with material culture research and repatriation of ancestors. A large component of his work is in the field of education. He has done presentations for a large number of people and schools throughout the United States and even internationally and continues to do so whenever he gets the opportunity. At this point in his career he has shared the Nez Perce message with millions of people via the presentations and the internet.
His education came from the numerous elder kinfolk he was raised around and he graduated form Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston Idaho with an Interdisciplinary Honors Degree in Native American Studies and Psychology.
Josiah will be participating in this year’s Montana Folk Festival to display material culture from his tribe and family. He will also be available to answer questions about the variety of items on display as well as visit with anyone that has in interest in the Nez Perce Tribe.
