Montana Wetlands and Waterfowl is the only Montana-based conservation and education organization focusing on waterfowl and their habitats. To do this, we work with area schools, other organizations, and agencies to hold educational events, presentations, and workshops. We have on-the-ground projects like our hen house program where we build duck nesting structures with area school kids and put them in restored areas across western Montana. We advocate for improved wetland habitat features in the new wetlands created as part of the Superfund Cleanup in the Clark Fork Valley. We are also proud participants in just about every nature-based event and festival in Montana including Wild Wings Choteau, World Migratory Bird Day, Montana Youth Outdoor Experience, Helena Watershed Festival, and many more.
Mark Mariano, Mary Sutherland, and their group will have a “Measure Your Wingspan” banner where people can compare their wingspan to a variety of birds. They will have a large waterfowl wing collection for people to handle and see the differences in size and species along with real size models of some species; and a model of the hen house structures they build with a hen and baby ducks to learn how to identify what you are when they see them all over the area.
