Due to the threat posed by COVID-19, the Montana Folk Festival was postponed in 2020 and 2021.
These decisions were made considering the guidelines for public gatherings set by federal, state and local authorities and from growing concerns for the health and welfare of our friends, neighbors, and community.
While COVID is still with us and may well be in one form or another through 2022, we have decided to go forward with the presentation of the festival in July 2022. Live events are returning throughout the country and in many instances where vaccination rates are high they have been presented without incident.
We will continue to monitor developments daily with the continued rollout of vaccines and the appearance of new variants and we will put precautions in place if need be to ensure the safety of performers, volunteers and our attendees when the festival returns next July 8, 9 and 10.
The Montana Folk Festival began during the Great Recession in 2008 and we are proud to have weathered that national emergency but this pandemic has laid us low and has dwarfed that challenge.
Mainstreet Uptown Butte, the lead non-profit that has organized the festival for the past 12 years is proud that this will be the 13th presentation of the festival in Butte, Montana.
As vaccines become more widespread and continue to prove they can beat back this virus, protecting ourselves and those we love around us by wearing masks and physical distancing are the most effective weapons we have against the spread of the coronavirus.
Our love and gratitude go out to the thousands who have joined us each summer in Butte. Your health and safety are at the heart of the process to decide to postpone this event for the past two summers but it is time to return. Please make your plans to join us in Butte next July 8-10!
The Montana Folk Festival Executive Committee and our partners with the Butte-Silver Bow County government share a deep appreciation for all who have continued to support us through this ordeal. We will continue to watch the latest developments closely while we plan for a return to a full festival in 2022, We are busy planning a bigger and better festival and we hope that we will see all of our fans next summer healthy and ready to safely enjoy live music on multiple stages once again in Uptown Butte.
