Dan Schwarz | The Craftsman
Raised amidst the wide-open ranch and farm country of north-central Montana, Dan Schwarz’s life was deeply rooted in the traditions of hard work and attention to detail. After years in the cattle industry, Dan made a life-changing decision to transition from working the land to working with his hands—crafting custom boots. In 2001, Dan traveled to St. Jo, Texas, to study with the renowned boot maker Carl Chappell. There, Dan honed the techniques and skills required to make high-quality, custom boots. He had already purchased the local boot and shoe repair shop, Blacktail Bootery, and set out to build a name for himself in the boot-making world.
With a focus on durability, precision, and timeless design, Dan’s boots are built to withstand the test of time, reflecting his commitment to the craft and the traditions of rural life. His attention to detail ensures that every pair of boots not only fits perfectly but also tells a story of true craftsmanship. For Dan, every stitch, cut, and piece of leather is a testament to his dedication to the art of boot making.
Julia Schwarz | Boot Maker | The Artist
Julia Schwarz’s artistic journey began far from the world of boot making. Born and raised in Idaho, just a stone’s throw from Dillon, she developed a keen eye for design, drawing inspiration from her surroundings and formal training in jewelry and metalsmithing. Her background as a jeweler and metalsmith adds a distinct, artistic flair to Schwarz Custom Boots. Julia’s natural creative talent found its perfect outlet when she joined the boot shop full-time in 2007, bringing her vision and artistry to the craft of boot making.
As the creative force behind many of the intricate details and custom designs at Schwarz Custom Boots, Julia blends her skills as an artist with traditional boot-making techniques. From unique embellishments and custom colors to artistic leatherwork, Julia adds a level of personal expression that sets each pair of boots apart. She works closely with clients to incorporate their individual style, ensuring that every pair not only fits perfectly but also represents their personality and vision.
