Della BigHair-Stump, an enrolled member of the Crow Tribe from Crow Agency, Montana, is the visionary force behind Designs by Della. Her Apsáalooke name, Latter Day Achiever, reflects the strength and resilience woven throughout her work. She is of the Whistling Water Clan and a child of the Big Lodge.
Since 2016, Della has been designing Native fashion and accessories that blend traditional Apsáalooke teachings with modern aesthetics. Inspired by the creativity of her mother, grandmothers, and grandfathers—who beaded, sewed, created feather work, and sketched out Crow designs around the kitchen table—Della transforms cultural knowledge into powerful wearable art.
Her unique, one-of-a-kind designs have garnered national and international attention. Her work has been featured in Teen Vogue, INSIDER, USA New News, Vocally, INDEPENDENT (UK), BUST Magazine, Xposer Magazine, Native American Art Magazine, and numerous local Montana publications. She has been a proud member of Native American Made in Montana since 2018.
Designs by Della has been showcased at fashion and art shows across the United States, Canada, and Paris, France, under the powerful theme: “When Culture Meets Fashion.”
Della’s work is also part of permanent museum collections:
Two gowns reside at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, featured in the GIRLHOOD (It’s Complicated) exhibit.
One couture gown, Shield That Sings, is housed in The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, symbolizing the strength, pride, and identity of Apsáalooke and Indigenous youth across the nation—honoring the way today’s Native youth use fashion to express themselves at prom, homecoming, graduations, and other milestones.
Beyond fashion, Della is a wife, a mother to three beautiful children, a grandmother, and an active participant in the powwow circuit as a dancer.
Designs by Della also offers ready-to-wear apparel and accessories, including leggings, dresses, tote bags, laptop sleeves, phone cases, T-shirts, backpacks, and more. Her full collection of wearable art is available online at: www.apsaalookedesignsbydella.com
