Corey-D-Whiteman-Devonté-Designs

Corey D. Whiteman is a 19-year-old fashion designer from the Crow (Apsáalooke) and Assiniboine/Nakota tribes. He’s a member of the Greasy Mouth clan and child of the Whistling Water clan, raised on the Crow Reservation in Pryor, Montana. Corey’s Apsáalooke name, given to him by his uncle Del Laverdure, reflects resilience—reminding him that even in hard times, good will come.

Corey learned to bead from his maternal grandmother, Norma Bell-Whiteman, who created beadwork for all her grandchildren. His work is deeply inspired by traditional Apsáalooke and Nakota geometric and floral designs. He finds calm and clarity through the art of beading and fashion, describing the process as soothing and meaningful.

Devonté Designs was born from Corey’s desire to show that Native people—especially young Native men—can be fashion-forward, creative, and successful. He blends traditional styles with modern statements, proving that Indigenous people are still here, still strong, and still creating beauty. Each piece from Devonté Designs tells a story of identity, culture, and pride.
