2026 Family Area
This year, the Family Area will partner with the Folklife Area to create a more engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages. Alongside hands-on activities provided by the Montana Arts Council and face painting by Martin’s Masks, several demonstrating artists will also offer kid-friendly programming, giving younger festival-goers the opportunity to explore traditional arts through interactive, hands-on learning. These demonstrating artists span the spectrum of Montana’s traditional practices. Allison Grove and Kammy Johnson who will provide kids the opportunity to explore the art of weaving through a hands-on, guided activity. Mark Mariano and Mary Sutherland of Lake Berkeley Decoy are offering kids the opportunity to measure their wingspan. Tim Ryan will showcase Salish Kootenai College’s work preserving traditional tribal games through a hands-on craft and activity. Finally, Tom Mocilac will be leading a fly-tying activity designed for middle and high school aged students. For more information about these demonstrators, please refer to their bios. This is not a daycare or drop-off area. Parents must stay and participate with their children.
