Tracy Morrison

Montana Traditions Stage Performer | Boise, ID

Tracy Morrison is a folksinger-songwriter and storyteller known for writing powerful laments and story songs about the American West. Many of her songs reflect the struggle and perseverance of historical western women such as Polly Bemis who was shipped to America from China by the slave trade, purchased by a mining camp saloon keeper and became a free woman after many years of servitude. Sarah Winnemucca was the first Native American woman to publish an autobiography, Life Among the Paiutes, Their Wrongs and Claims, about the first 40 years between her people and European settlers. Kitty Wilkins, the Horse Queen of Idaho, was the only woman horse breeder of her time who sold thousands of horses throughout North America.

Tracy has opened for world-renowned folksinger Tish Hinojosa, and shared the stage with guitar virtuoso, Sergio Webb. Her latest album Heirloom (2018) was produced by multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter, Thomas Paul. In 2012, Tracy released a self-titled, alternative country EP produced by Pinto Bennett. In 2014, she released Dancing Through Medbury, a full-length collection of original folk songs highlighting her rural roots and incorporating hints of old-time country-blues and western.

Tracy is also a speaker for the Idaho Humanities Council’s Speakers Bureau. She presents songs and stories programs including “Historical Idaho Women Stories & Folksongs,” “Country Ballads and Early Blues” and “American Folkmusic Revival.”
