LaVonne Stucky, Shepherdess and Wool Spinner

LaVonne Stuckey

Montana Folklife Demonstrator

The Wool Mill and Serenity Sheep Farm Stay | Belgrade, MT

LaVonne Stucky lives on a farm in the Gallatin Valley on land she and her husband purchased from his parents. This is the same land his grandfather worked with horses. Born in Montana, LaVonne has the farm life in her blood. Her paternal grandparents were Germans from Russia who homesteaded in North Dakota. Her maternal grandfather worked for the railroad and her mother spent her formative years making memories in Butte with her family.

LaVonne began raising sheep with two lambs that were born on her birthday back in the early 1990s. One thing led to another and she now owns a wool mill, processing raw wool into roving, batts and yarn. Along with her own wool, she custom processes for other flock owners. Her motto is “Farm to Yarn, One Flock at a Time.” LaVonne also owns and operates Serenity Sheep Farm Stay and rents out antique sheep wagons to guests who come from all over the world. She is a recurring Superhost on Airbnb.

LaVonne has been an Artist in Residence at a local Bozeman elementary school for the past 11 years, and she volunteers each year at the Gallatin Valley Farm Fair helping teach area 4th graders where their food comes from in the Ewe to You station.
